Meet the Inspire MD 2023 Honorees: Maryland Business Hall of Fame Inductees

Two of Maryland’s most accomplished business leaders, Sheela Murthy and Mike Rosenbaum, were inducted into the Maryland Business Hall of Fame during the Maryland Chamber of Commerce’s Inspire MD event in 2023.

In addition to these honors, the Maryland Chamber of Commerce also honored Senator Delores Goodwin Kelley with the 2023 Public Service Award, as well as four deserving young professionals with the 2023 Rising Star Award.

Sheela Murthy, Founder & President of Murthy Law Firm

Sheela Murthy is an accomplished entrepreneur, philanthropist, community leader, public speaker and internationally recognized U.S. immigration lawyer.

Born in India, Sheela developed a passion for making a difference in people’s lives throughout her childhood and schooling. Upon graduating from the prestigious Stella Maris College in Chennai (Madras) and the University Law College in Bangalore, Sheela immigrated to the United States and enrolled in Harvard Law School.

Upon graduation, she began her accomplished career with law firms in New York and Baltimore, eventually working to found Murthy Law Firm, using her passion, experience and knowledge to support individuals and families with achieving their American dream of living and working in the United States.

Today, Murthy Law Firm is recognized as one the world’s premier U.S. immigration law firms. With headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland and satellite offices in Seattle, Washington and affiliate offices in Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai, India, Murthy Law Firm represents a wide range of clients, including Fortune 500 companies, mid-size and small businesses, entertainers, entrepreneurs, physicians, researchers and many others, pursuing both employment- and family-based immigration options.

In addition to her entrepreneurial leadership and success, Sheela is a dedicated public servant and leader who believes in giving back to the community. Throughout her career, Sheela has dedicated her time, support and expertise to organizations including the American Immigration Council, Girl Scouts of Central Maryland, Jhpiego and Stevenson University. She has also served in leadership roles for various boards and organizations, including with the Maryland Chamber Foundation, the Maryland Chamber of Commerce, the United Way of Central Maryland and United Way International.

Sheela is also a generous philanthropist. In 2001, Sheela and and her husband Vasant Nayak co-founded the nonprofit MurthyNAYAK Foundation, dedicated to implementing socially transformative projects designed to improve the lives of women, children and immigrants – both in her birth country, India, as well as her adopted country, the United States.

Sheela has deservingly received many awards and honors throughout her storied career, including honors from Ernst & Young, the Baltimore Business Journal, the Daily Record, SmartCEO magazine, the United Way and numerous others.

For her incredible leadership, entrepreneurial acumen and spirit, generous contributions through service and philanthropy, and for her passionate work at helping others achieve their dreams, the Maryland Chamber of Commerce is delighted to induct Ms. Sheela Murthy into the Maryland Business Hall of Fame.

Mike Rosenbaum, Founder of Catalyte and Arena Analytics

Mike Rosenbaum is a Baltimore-based tech entrepreneur, active community servant and philanthropist who has dedicated his career to restructuring our economy and our society to enable pathways of socioeconomic mobility, economic security, and dignity for every individual.

A lifelong Maryland resident, Mike earned a BA from Harvard University, an MSc Economics from London School of Economics, and a JD from Harvard Law School, and clerked for Diana Gribbon Motz on the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.  He worked in the federal government, including at the Clinton White House, before becoming a fellow at Harvard writing and teaching on issues related to economics and law.

He used his experience and observations from his time with the federal government and in academia to start Baltimore-based workforce-focused tech companies Catalyte (founded in 2001) and Arena Analytics (founded in 2015), both of which have expanded to serve people and organizations nationally. Built on the premise that talent is equally distributed everywhere but opportunity is not, Catalyte and Arena Analytics transform the labor market by helping organizations build more productive and equitable workforces while empowering individuals to uncover and pursue opportunities where they are most likely to thrive.

In addition to being a successful entrepreneur, Mike is a dedicated public servant. He ran for Governor of Maryland in 2021, is a current trustee of the Johns Hopkins University and a former trustee of the Baltimore Museum of Art, where he chaired the search committee that hired the last director and transformed its vision, of The Family Tree, and of Bryn Mawr School.  Michael also has served on the Rework America Task Force of the Markle Foundation and on a range of other civic and national boards and efforts related to poverty, economic mobility, and race.

For his entrepreneurial spirt, leadership in creating equity and diversity in the workforce, dedication to improving our great state and tremendous civic involvement, the Maryland Chamber of Commerce is pleased to induct Mr. Rosenbaum into the Maryland Business Hall of Fame.

Inspire MD is an annual celebration that gathers Maryland’s community of leaders, changemakers, entrepreneurs, influencers and professionals for an evening celebrating the people and organizations that make Maryland unique. Featuring networking, entertainment, food, drinks and festivity, the event is ticketed and open to the public.
