Member Services Coordinator

This member services position is responsible with minimal supervision for assisting Operations and the Membership Department with new member and retention efforts, receptionist duties, new member onboarding, database management, and a variety of administrative tasks connected to the Maryland Chamber of Commerce’s work. Daily tasks include, but are not limited to, database upkeep, financial data input, receivable collection assistance, and any other member interaction that may be necessary. An interest in public policy development is desirable, but not required. This is a salaried position reporting directly to the executive vice president of Strategic Partnerships.

Special Administrative Knowledge:

Database management, excellent writing, computer and telephone skills

Special Skills and Abilities:

Strong organization, time management and multi-tasking skills; detail-oriented
Professional self-starter with strong ethical standards
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Excel, Power Point and Word
Strong verbal and written communications skills
Able to think outside the box to offer new ideas, concepts, and solutions autonomously
Capable of maintaining sensitive/confidential information
Team player who works well in an adapting environment
Customer service-oriented, with excellent customer service skills
Able to master WebLink CRM system within the first 90 days of employment
Mastery of all products and services sold and offered by the Chamber
Must have/maintain a dependable vehicle with proof of license and insurance

Job Specifications: (Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required)

Associate or bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis in business management, communications, or political science
Entry level with 1 – 3 years experience in customer service related field.

Administrative Assistant

Compensation: Paid
Position Dates: Flexible
Hours: 3 days a week/15 hours

Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist in adapting current operations systems to optimizing efficiency
Support executive office manager in maintenance and management of organization finances
Aid in database management
Assist with answering the phone and greeting visitors
Work independently and within a team on special nonrecurring and ongoing projects
Learn various technical and administrative functions
Assist with various technical and administrative functions
Sort and distribute mail
Manage board room calendar and board room conditions/preparation
Support office facilities management
Perform other duties as assigned

Skills Required:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word

Internships at the Maryland Chamber of Commerce

Communications & Marketing Intern

Compensation: Paid
Position Dates: Flexible
Hours: 2-3 days a week, 15-22 Hrs. Flexible
Prerequisites: Student currently enrolled in a baccalaureate or graduate level program in marketing, communications, business, or other related field

Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist with daily operations within the office
Aid in creating and executing social media based marketing plans for growing member awareness of benefit programs
Creating social media posts with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and more
Assist with the writing and design of website
Providing support at Chamber events
Aid in database management

Skills Required:

Be creative and confident, willing to pitch ideas for new marketing tools and strategies
Have excellent writing, editing and communication skills
Basic experience in Adobe design suite
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to accomplish projects with little supervision

Event Planning and Promotion

Area of Focus: Event Planning and Promotion
Compensation: Paid 
Position Dates: Flexible
Hours: 2-3 days a week, 17-22 hours per week. Flexible.
Prerequisites: Student currently enrolled in a baccalaureate or graduate level program in marketing, communications, business, hospitality management or other related field.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Conduct research, make site visits (with Chamber staff), and find resources to help staff make decisions about event possibilities
Assist in identifying event opportunities and generating interest
Works closely with other staff members in promoting Chamber events to target audience
Assists in preparing a variety of publications, materials, and programs for events
Assists in maintaining the Chamber website ensuring that event and program updates are made on a timely basis
Attends signature events
Assists on the “day of” in set-up, preparation, hosting registration table and troubleshooting
May be asked to assist with social media, pre-and post-event coverage
Assist with event registration
Aid in database management

Skills Required:

Excellent communication skills, including writing, proof reading skills, and speaking
Excellent organization skills and experience with project management
Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and work assignments from a variety of staff and volunteers 
Ability to accomplish projects with little supervision

Government Affairs Intern

Area of Focus: Government Affairs
Compensation: Paid
Position Dates: Immediately/ASAP
Hours: 2-3 days a week, 17-22 hours per week. Flexible
Prerequisites: Student currently enrolled in a baccalaureate or graduate level program in marketing, communications, business, hospitality management or other related field.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Providing administrative support to the lobbying team in order to provide timely and accurate reports, position papers, testimony, fax/emailing of legislative-related documents and correspondence to legislators, members and other constituency groups
Supporting the Legislative, and other policy committees of the Maryland Chamber with regard to preparing, updating, and maintaining committee lists, agendas, meeting notices, RSVPs, materials and correspondence
Other duties as assigned
Aid in database management

Skills Required:

Outstanding computer skills, including database management
Good writing skills as well as a strong ability to work within strict timelines
A professional demeanor coupled with a good work ethic
A general understanding of the legislative process is preferred
