Employer Relations
Committee:
SRU
Bill Summary:
The bill requires an employer with a specified written policy to pay accrued leave to an employee on termination of employment only under specified circumstances.
History: None
Chamber Position: Support Position
Summary: This legislation amends the Maryland Labor and Employment Article to provide that an employer is not required to pay accrued, but unused leave at termination where the employer has a written policy in place that is communicated to employees in advance of their terminations and states that accrued leave will be forfeited under certain circumstances. The legislation protects the employer from being inappropriately mandated to pay leave, when violation of employer policy occurs.
For these reason, the Maryland Chamber supports this legislation. Position Statement: Click here to download a pdf version of the Maryland Chamber's position statement.
