Bill
Number: SB 760
Bill Title:
Transportation - Consolidated Transportation Program - Evaluation and Selection of Proposed Capital Projects
Bill Sponsor(s):
Senators Pugh and Harrington
Subject:
Transportation
Committee:
B&T
Bill Summary:
This bill would have altered the process and criteria when selecting projects to be included in the Consolidated Transportation Program to include additional environmental standards.
History: In 2010 this bill passed the Senate, but received no action in the House. The House version, HB 1155 was enacted into law as Chapter 725.
Chamber Position: Oppose
Position
Summary: Although well intentioned, the bill would have added another layer of regulation to an already measured process regarding transportation projects. This legislation would have potentially increased costs and further delayed or stopped necessary projects from moving forward. There are currently sufficient tools in place to ensure that projects adhere to environmental laws. For these reasons, the Maryland Chamber opposed this bill.
