Bill Summary: This law repeals the termination date of the Joint Committee on Unemployment Insurance Oversigh, making it a permanent entity. It also requires the Committee to complete a study of provisions of law relating to employing units engaged in seasonal industries and to report its findings to the Governor and the General Assembly on or before December 1, 2010.

History: This bill passed the General Assembly, and was signed into law by the Governor.

Position Summary: The Maryland Chamber supported the repeal of the termination date of the Joint Committee on Unemployment Insurance Oversight. The committee has proven to be a respected and valued forum to bring stakeholders from all areas of interest together to address UI issues in a productive and efficient manner. The Maryland Chamber has a representative on the committee, and has been pleased with its collaborative approach to UI concerns and issues. For these reasons, the Maryland Chamber supported this bill.
