Bill Summary: This bill would have limited the total appeal bond required in certain class action and multiple plaintiff cases to $200 million.

History: The Chamber has supported similar bills in recent years that would have limited appeal bonds. In 2005 HB 639 received an unfavorable report by JUD. In 2006 HB 1333 died without a vote in JUD. In 2007 HB 807 received an unfavorable report in the Judiciary Committee. In 2009 HB 1372 received an unfavorable report from the Judiciary Committee. In 2010 HB 1509 died without a vote in the Judiciary Committee.

Position Summary: The Chamber supported this bill as a means of guaranteeing businesses access to appeal rights, without facing the cost of an unaffordable appeal bond.
