Bill Positions

Bill Number: HB 1318

Bill Title: Sales and Use Tax on Computer Services and Motor Vehicle Excise Tax - Rates

Bill Sponsor(s): Delegate Bronrott

Subject: Budget & Tax

Committee: W&M

Bill Summary: This bill would reduce the sales tax on computer services from 6% to 3%, while increasing titling taxes on class M multipurpose passenger vehicles.

History: The sales tax on computer services was enacted at the 2007 special session, effective 7/1/08.

Chamber Position: Support

Position Summary: A new sales tax on fuels is not a fair trade off for the inventory personal property tax exemption. In addition to being a new tax cost, the sales tax adds a new layer of tax compliance and therefore complexity for businesses.
