Bill Number: HB 1154

Bill Title: Workers' Compensation - Permanent Partial Disability - Benefit

Bill Sponsor(s): Delegates Manno & Schuler

Subject: Workers' Compensation

Committee: ECM

Bill Summary: This bill repeals provisions in law providing compensation awarded for a permanent partial disability claim for less than 75 weeks; repeals provisions related to compensation for public safety employees; increases the maximum weekly benefit for an employee who is awarded compensation for less than 75 weeks; provides that all employees who are awarded compensation for permanent partial disability for less than 250 weeks will be entitled to the same maximum weekly benefit; etc.

History: None

Chamber Position: Oppose

Position Summary: Simply stated, the difference between an injury causing a 5% disability to a foot, and one causing a 45% disability to the back, is too great to have them compensated at equal rates.

For these reasons, the Maryland Chamber respectfully requests that the Economic Matters Committee give House Bill 1154 an unfavorable report.
