Bill Summary: This bill establishes the Blue Ribbon Commission on Maryland Transportation Funding. Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) must provide staff support for the task force. The task force must submit an interim report by January 1, 2011, and a final report by November 1, 2011 providing findings and recommendations to the Governor and the General Assembly.

History: In 2010 this bill was enacted into law as Chapter 526. The Senate version, SB 229 was enacted into law as Chapter 525.

Chamber Position: Support

Position Summary: The Maryland Chamber supports efforts to identify alternative funding sources for the Transportation Trust Fund (TTF). New funding sources are essential to the health and sustainability of the TTF. The Maryland Chamber encourages the Blue Ribbon Commission to identify new opportunities and avenues to increase revenue to the fund. For these reasons, the Maryland Chamber supported this bill.
