Maryland students beat national average in newly released SAT scores

Maryland's talent pipeline starts with our students and according to SAT scores for Maryland public school, those students ranked just above the national average last year.

According to data released by the College Board and the Baltimore Sun, students from Maryland public schools scores averaged one point higher than national averages—528 out of 800 in English Language Arts and 518 points in math.

When it came to the ACT, Maryland students also beat the national average. For the 2016-2017 school year, the national average was 21, and Maryland students had an average composite ACT score of 23.4.

“Our goal is better prepared graduates with choices – more education or a fulfilling career right after high school, and we need all of our graduates performing at a high level,” state superintendent Karen Salmon said in a written statement.
